The Small School was, and still is, a revolutionary project. It began in 1982 in response to a few local families’ wish for their secondary-aged children to be educated in their own community. The children had begun their education in small village primary schools or had been educated at home.

The only options within the state system were two large community colleges, both necessitating long journeys to and from school on unsupervised buses.
