Hartland is teeming with artisans or so it seems. For a small community, it certainly attracts people immersed in the arts such as pottery and woodcut printing.

Phil and Frannie Leach are potters, and have been involved in a huge project backed with an Arts Council grant.
They invited 20 leading potters from around the U.K. and 2 from the Netherlands and Michelle Erikson from Jamestown in North Carolina to make pots to be fired in the wood-fired kiln in Bideford Park.
The aim was to help revive Bideford’s historical connection with the East coast of the United States through ceramics.
Philip Leach is also taking part in an exhibition in Japan along with his potting relatives and potters recognised for influence found in their work from Bernard Leach.
