| Rhododendrons at Hartland Abbey this May half term 2016 |
Unbroken sunshine, endless blue sea and sky, and glorious flowers are the predominant themes on the Hartland Peninsula this May half term.
Not only are the formal gardens, like Docton Mill,Cheristow Lavender and Hartland Abbey a riot of colour with shrubs like rhododendrons and azaleas bursting into full, tropical bloom but the South West Coast Path and all the lanes, hedgerows and footpaths and ablaze with spring flowers.
In hidden woodland and shady pockets there are still (just) bluebells, violets and wild garlic whilst the hedges are overflowing with early orchids, white campion, red campion, purple vetch, buttercups, hawthorn, blackthorn, celandine, periwinkle, woodruff, wild strawberries… to name just a few! And along the coastpath sea campion, thrift, heady coconut scented gorse, speedwell and so many more.
Now is the time to take a half term daytrip or short break and enjoy the simple pleasures of spring on the Hartland Peninsula…beautiful views, heavenly weather, the joys of nature…and wonderful local food and drink!
