Southole Barns – very special self-catering holidays
So many places to visit but not enough time!
The most special just happened to be on the door step – Welcombe Bay, Hartland Quay & Point (plus Docton Mill & walk to the waterfall at Speke). Returning home feeling very relaxed!

A privileged and magical stay at East Titchberry
Thank you for such a lovely week with a warm and friendly welcome and chocolate cake too. Delightful cottage and feel privileged to have stayed in a National Trust building. Especially loved the jacob sheep, lambs and pigs and also the very handsome cattle, not forgetting the chickens. Will highly recommend to everyone every chance I get. Once again thank you Sarah and Tim. PS Woodburner was magical.

Amazing break at West Tosberry!
We’ve had a fantastic week staying in Horseshoe Cottage. Loved the house, the beds, the upstairs lounge, the pool…. well everything…we so didn’t want to go home and we’re all missing being there.
We did do a lot of trips out this week. We would highly recommend the Exmoor Owl and Hawk centre. My daughter went on a two hour ride whilst the rest of us went alpaca trekking for an hour! So much fun and well worth the drive as it’s beautiful where it’s situated plus, you get to drive on the steepest road in England.
Exmoor Zoo was also very good. Westward Ho!, Clovelly, Hartland Quay and Hartland with its friendly pubs were also really good places to visit.
Atlantic Village is also worth popping into for a few bargains!

We rate Smudgers Cottage and hospitality as 11 out of 10!
Returning to the cottage each day after our amazing walks along the cliffs was like coming home. Such peace and beauty, absolutely stunning and so good for the soul. The walk to Welcombe beach and the incredible views which greeted us every way we turned, was well worth the walk back up the lane afterwards! A glass of wine watching the beautiful sunsets and taking endless photos was something else we are going to miss, not to mention the incredible night skies, and Dion’s very knowledgeable advice about stargazing. Many thanks for everything. The scones were delicious and Smudgers is so well equipped, but most of all we will miss your kindness which definitely comes from the heart. We will be back to Smudgers and the incredible Hartland Peninsula very soon. -
Hartland House Spa by Cara M, Surrey
My friend and I booked a spa morning at this fabulous spa while we were staying in North Devon with our families. Hartland Spa is absolutely stunning in its surroundings, Melissa and Claire were wonderfully attentive and the spa is a pure sanctuary, a perfect girls or couples retreat. We are booking a girlie weekend soon! I would definitely recommend Hartland House spa.

“Thank you very much for the great stay at Honeysuckle Cottage. We really enjoyed doing the walks from the welcome book. The jams and chutneys you left were tasty too! The pool was a great little treat for us, we had daily swims and loved playing in the water.”

We enjoyed a relaxing holiday in a well-equipped cottage with a super pool. Everything was toasty warm and comfortable. We recommend the numerous walks in the cottage handbook and the cream tea at Docton Mill is a MUST! Thank you so much.

I was sitting in The Hart in the Square in Hartland on Tuesday evening eating Swordfish and I was wondering… why on earth isn’t the Hart jammed full every evening of every week through out the year? The dish I was eating was wonderful: swordfish on sweet potato chips with a magical pesto. It was the second meal I had had in The Hart in the last seven days and both were wonderful. Every bite was wonderful.

Hartland House Spa – Livvy, Switzerland
My friend and I recently spent a brilliant half day at this fab venue. The staff were exceptional with amazing attention to detail. Claire the beautician was superb, so professional! We will be back, I would love to think on a regular basis!! I fully recommend Hartland House Spa. Thank you everyone there.

“Hartland is a very special place for us. Since the children were tiny we’ve been coming here for day trips, camping and to eat in the pubs. Nothing beats Hartland Quay and a wild, windy, wet day when the waves crash against the cliffs and you really know you’re alive. We always bring family here when they come to visit and no-one ever fails to be deeply impressed. Our favourite time of year is April/May when, if you’re lucky, you can get to walk with bluebells, primroses, wild garlic, thrift and sea campion all out at once!!”

“My husband’s godson got married at St Nectan’s Church on Sat 5th June. Through your website we selected to stay at Angie and Terry Cook’s B&B Tosberry Cottage, Tosberry, Hartland. The whole weekend was magical and specially so because of Angie and Terry’s hospitality, warmth and caring nature. Nothing was too much trouble and they couldn’t do enough to ensure that everything run smoothly with our plans – from driving to the church beforehand- so we didn’t get lost – to offering to pick us up from the reception at whatever time it finished! A very special couple indeed and we hope, new lifelong friends. Delighted that they featured on your site. Thank you.”
